Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) is one of Scandinavia’s premier universities and it has a strong focus on high-level research in engineering, technology and innovation-related fields.
Established in 1918, TUT is the second largest university in terms of enrolment in Estonia, and it is the oldest and largest public university in the capital city. The University holds the 501-550 position in the QS World University Rankings. The university is attractive to international teaching staff and researchers, as well as internationally mobile students. Of all international students studying in Estonia in 2013/2014, some 36% studied at the Tallinn University of Technology. The university places strong emphasis on internationalisation, innovation and the provision of interdisciplinary high-level education.
TUT is home to a total of 2000 international students (8.86%) from some 83 different countries and 10% of its staff members are international. There are 18 Master’s programmes taught fully in English in TUT in the field of engineering, technology, ICT, business and social sciences. Many of those programmes are offered tuition fee free for international students. With an emphasis on practical applications and independent research, each programme ensures that academic excellence and professional training go hand-in-hand. There are also more than 400 Erasmus and bilateral agreements. The university has also entered into partnerships with prestigious European, Asian and American universities, and as a result, there is extensive cooperation for student and staff exchange and academic development with the world’s leading universities.
Living costs in Estonia are affordable and are considered to be lower than in most other European countries. Cost of living in Estonia is usually dependent upon the student’s accommodation choices, lifestyle, and spending patterns, but the average monthly living expenses for international students stay around €300–€500. TUT offers 7 different residential living communities. Most of the residences are located at close range of university study buildings. The rent per person in a twin room in the dormitory is around €100-120 month including utilities. All dormitories are renovated and fully furnished.
