A Polish 'Big Apple' University, the highly respected University of Lodz is one of the leading institutions of higher education in Poland. The 12 faculties of the University provide programmes in 70 fields of study and 182 specializations. The University also offers doctoral programmes and more than 70 postgraduate curricula. About 10,000 students complete their programmes at the University of Lodz every year. Our international students, together with those studying in Lodz within Erasmus+ exchange, come from about 80 different countries (there are about 1,600 international students each year). The city of Lodz is located in the heart of Poland at a crossing point of many important European routes. Lodz is only 125 km away from Warsaw – the capital of Poland. It is the third biggest city in Poland, the city of famous filmmakers including Mr. Roman Polanski. The 38,000 students attend classes that are taught by 2,222 academic teachers, 580 of whom bear the highest academic rank. The interest in studying at the University of Lodz is determined not only by high quality of instruction, but also by modern programmes of study offered in Polish and English and adapted to the changing demands of the labour market. The University is repeatedly ranked amongst the top higher education institutions in Poland, and it especially excels in such fields of study as management, political studies, economics and law.
UL is one of only four Polish Universities which gains a place in the QS World University Rankings. The University treats international cooperation as a way to foster its development and takes part in many international research and exchange projects (including Erasmus+). The institution regularly hosts guest speakers, renowned politicians, businessmen and cultural representatives from Poland and abroad. In 2015 UL celebrated its 70th anniversary with the guest of honour – a renowned writer Umberto Eco who received his DHC from the University. Halls of Residence/ Dormitories are offered to all first year full-time students (cost below). The International Students Office issues an acceptance letter for visa purposes for candidates who pass the requirements to enter the studies. Each accepted student needs to make sure that he/she follows all the Polish Embassy’s requirements to receive a visa. The visa to Poland gives a student the right to enter other European countries, as Poland is in the European Union and within Schengen Area. While studying the students can obtain residence card that allows them to take up part time jobs. Lodz is the city where there are many people from India – it is the center for Infosys company. After getting the diploma, the graduate can legally work in Poland. Monthly cost of living per person (average), Lodz, Poland: Students’ dormitory, double room – from 87 to 100EUR Rent – a room in an apartment – 125EUR Rent – an apartment – from 300EUR up Textbooks – the lowest cost includes Xerox-copying and using the library. The higher cost estimates the price of new books. Food – the cost depends on the student's needs. Minimum 125 EUR a month does not include restaurants and going out.

The University of Lodz offers K107 scholarships of the Erasmus+ Credit Mobility Program only for PHD students of partner universities. After becoming the student of the University of Lodz, each university student can apply for the Erasmus+ scholarship (400EUR a month) and visit for study any of the univesity's 600 partner institutions in European Union for a period of a semester.
